Parts Review/ Life: MyAmuse in SoCal & Amuse Lug Nuts!

Hi all,
My friend Warren came out to SoCal to attend a wedding.  You can following him on instagram here .  He stayed at my place for a few days.  Of course he showed me his awesome and expensive Amuse Lug nuts.

His Amuse R1 Bumper, Amuse Hood S2k!  Sometimes I see my own car when I see his….. RIP old S2k 😦

The first glance at the Amuse Titanium lug nut.  The lug nut is insanely light, even compared to the Volk Racing Lug nut.  It’s an open ended lug not, so you can run these with extended studs!

Yep, that is Chris’s Mugen S2k!  Bronze CE28N for days…..

Apparently it takes more than one person to install the Amuse Lug nuts!

Goes well together….

So Amuse lug nuts, are they worth the money?  They’re super light and have “good fitment” haha hopefully lug nuts should have good fitment.  I would say maybe?  They sure look great.

Photoshoot: June 2016 Photoshoot!

Photoshoot: June 2016 Photoshoot!

Happy 4th of July everyone.  Last week Warren was back in town from South Korea so we decided to get together for a quick photoshoot!  It was getting late and we were not in the mood to move our cars 100000 times….. so this is a bunch of shots in different angles.  I lost a few shots because my camera was set on auto ISO on the tripod, the pictures weren’t up to my standards so they weren’t posted.

This line up of cars  is seen plenty of times if you are a frequent visitor of this site.  From the left to right, my car, Alan’s car, Areen’s car, Chris’s car, and Warren’s car

Chris Lum’s Mugen AP2 and Warren’s AP2 with the ASM V1 rear.

Warren’s Ap2 is also rocking an Authentic Amuse Dry Carbon Hood and Amuse R1 front bumper….. The Mugen hardtop Bronze CE28N and Stoptech brakes are a nice touch…. You can see the different types of S2000 hoods in this shot.  Of course, everything is authentic!

Chris’s clean Mugen Dry CF hood and Mugen intake.

Areen’s Carbon Fiber Spoon Spark plug cover signed by Mr. Spoon himself.  The battery setup is by KcMachine
Closing this photoshoot out with Areen’s Amuse’d Ap2.

Life: Top Down Meet 10 Year Anniversary

This past Saturday we checked out the Top Down Meet 10 year anniversary meet at the La Puente Hills Mall.  The Top Down Crew are an “old school” S2k crew. Living on the East coast I was always envious of the S2k scene out in California, the east coast didn’t have too much of an S2k scene.  I remember reading about the different S2k crews in California on S2ki. Years have passed and most of the original members have moved on to newer cars or have started families, but you can tell the S2k still holds a place in their hearts.

I was planning to take a ton of pictures, but the meet ended before I had a chance to take out my tripod, everything you see here is shot handheld, so I’m sure they are plenty of cars I did not shoot that attended the meet.
A man admiring the fine machines……

Gotuning Tommy’s ASM theme Ap2 CR and a car that has been featured on this site many many many many times, Areen’s Spoon themed Ap2.

Extremely quality parts here, ASM EVERYTHING, ASM dry carbon hood, Mugen DRY CF top, ASM Prodrive wheels….. and of course we know all about Areen’s car….. Shine Everything! JK all authentic here too!

The meet was starting to look good…..Aftermarket front bumpers everywhere, like this voltex kitted car…. not too sure how many of these front bumpers were authentic though…..

A look many of the younger S2k crowd is going for nowadays…. ASM front bumper and Enkei RPF1s SBCs

As I mentioned earlier, some members have moved on…..It looks like this particular member moved on to a Datsun 510 but still rocking a TD S2k license plate.  He proudly displayed a picture of what I can assume is his prior ride.

ASM and Voltex bumpers came out in numbers that night….They were more ASM and Voltex front bumpers than stock bumpers…..

One of my favorite cars of the night.  OG S2k rocking a legit IS-11 ASM kit, CE28N, Spoon Calipers, M racing Mirrors, Mugen Hardtop, and more.

Around this time is when the cops came by and broke up the meet….about 1 hour after it got started.  They told everyone to leave or they will start writing tickets.

A few of us rolled out to another spot…. Here is Mike checking out Tommy’s ASM’ed AP2 CR.  His ASM I.S. DESIGN FRONT AERO BUMPER GT-10 is tits, I want to say this is Dry Carbon……

Warren was in town from South Korean, he brought out his awesome Amuser R1 front bumper and amuse dry carbon hood.

Chris Lum’s famous Mugen Ap2!  He’s almost been on this site many times….

Tommy popped the hood of his ASM CR and it unveiled a host of ASM goodies, the ASM CF intake, a rare piece, I think this is where passwordjdm got “inspiration” to create their intake.  Of course ASM cooling plate, ASM catch can, ASM coolant reservoir, ASM strut bar, ASM Toda throttle body, and the piece I’ve been looking around everywhere the Mugen Dry Carbon Spark Plug Cover!

The rear of Tommy’s car was all ASM too, CUSTOM Spec ASM wing, ASM 07+ rear bumper, ASM tow hook, and the ASM Siren exhaust.  It sounded so clean……
This car just happened to be in the parking lot…. FRS/BRZ? with a Voltex Swan neck wing and the best mod…..a big ass Honda badge!

Life: Nemo’s Garage Grand Opening Meet

Hi all.  Last week I checked out the Nemo’s Garage grand opening meet.  Nemo’s garage is located in Ontario, CA.  It was hot as hell that day, with temperatures in the upper 90s.

I rolled with my buddy Alvin in his LBP AP2

We found some parking off to the side….

There were plenty of civics there….

Like this K swapped RHD example

Of course, I was on the lookout for S2000s….. Like this Formula Red sitting on Advan RZ.

Instagram famous S2boost…. with J’s Fenders, Mugen Hardtop, J’s Racing rear quarter panel, and of course a Vortech supercharger……

Bronze TE37V and Spoon Calipers

My favorite civic there, and they were a lot of civics to choose from.  This is a clean and simple Spoon EG build with almost every spoon part thrown at it.

I don’t know much about CRXs, but this one looked like it had plenty of Mugen goodies……

I met up with my buddy Areen at the show and his Spoon’d out S2k.  He was parked next to a nicely executed Mugen theme S2000 CR in Apex Blue.

Apex blue just pops in person.  I love this entire build…..

Mugen Hood and Mugen MF10s!

He replaced the OEM hardtop with a Mugen piece.

Underneath the MF10s sits Endless Calipers…..Not many people run endless calipers, since they cost more than most of the Big Brake Kits out for the S2k

A better shot of the Mugen MF10 with Endless Calipers….

A caliper comparison, Areen’s Spoon Caliper setup with his brand new Project MU brake rotors.

My favorite cars at the meet for sure….

Areen’s Spoon Mirrors vs Mugen Blue mirror inserts.

Sleek and aerodynamic spoon mirrors…. not many S2ks can pull this off, doesn’t hurt when you have the full spoon kit.

I love how these look, they look much more blue than the spoon mirror inserts….and of course that mugen logo!

Here is Areen telling me about his 1 of 3 in the world J’s racing shiftknob and our crotches
Areen’s New ASM rear bar……Fresh off the boat from ASM.

Meet was not limited to Hondas, this mean FB RX-7 rolled by.

Or this 71′ datsun 240z

Two of Nemo Garage’s cars. their EM1 and EG….
Instagram S2k I follow, Mykeeeman.  Full J’s Racing exterior with some meaty ce28 and J’s racing 6pot calipers

The interior unfortunately was not as good as the exterior…. I’m sure he is still working on it. Looks look he has a cage with side bars, but the takata harness through the stock seats kills it for me. From a safety aspect it is unsafe and aesthetically, it looks bad.  All he really needs is seats and possibly a new center console cover.

Rear shot of the J’s racing rear bumper and J’s racing tow hook

J’s racing exhaust!

Another build I see on instragram, DPK ChuyChuy and his ITR

I love small details like this Fuji Speedway sticker on the lip….

First time really seeing a J swapped civic.  In real life it sticks out of the hood so much…..

Owner and his girl drive all the way from Vegas like this….. no hood and all….

Amazing how clean the engine fits in the engine bay

Stock bodied MKIV Supra rolling by..

I was suprised on the number of RHD Civics in attendance.  I felt like there were more RHD civics than LHD.
I love this clean look, lowered midori on CE28s in Titanium Silver.

Pick Ups: (Not Mine) Spoon Axle +Spoon Toe Arms

I’m lucky enough to have crazy friends with crazy taste that let me live vicariously through them, it is what sets them apart from a majority of other enthusiasts in my opinion. They are willing to take it to that extra degree that some others would think is superfluous and not a necessity.

My buddy Areen with his crazy Spoon’ed out S2000 picked up some parts for his car……

DSC05307

Legit Spoon Sports axles! How many of these are floating around in the USA?  I’m betting you these are the only ones in the USA…..

DSC05311

What makes these different than normal axles you say? Quoted from the Spoon EU Website….

“The importance of a reliable driveshaft is often overlooked in endurance racing to street applications. The standard Honda units do not lack strength themselves, the troubles and failure of the driveshafts are often the finishing quality. Slight pitting can occur on the contact surfaces, which under high heat deteriorate which then cause vibrations and failure.

The Spoon drive shafts are standard Honda units that have been disassembled then reworked and reassembled by Spoon technicians. Each contact surface has been polished and finished to exacting standards and then the components are matched during assembly to ensure the highest tolerances.

This ensures a smooth power delivery and reliable service ”

TLDR: Spoon takes the axles apart and micro polishes the bearings and repacked it with high quality grease…..

I blanked out the serial number because Areen paid good money for these and the last thing I want to see is the number being knocked off….

DSC05313

These would good perfect with some Spoon Axle Spacers

DSC05316

He Also picked up a SPOON REAR CONTROL ARM KIT….. Basically the Bump Steer kit for the S2k made by Spoon…. What sets these apart from other companies that have released the same type of component? These are made from Steel instead of aluminum, which makes these more reliable and stronger…..

DSC05317

DSC05319

Details like this is what sets his Spoon build apart from other Spoon builds….. He’s also a big fan of ASM, so the car will never really be a complete catalogue car…..

DSC05327

DSC05329

The new look with the Spoon over fenders installed and painted!

DSC05322

Speaking of insane enthusiasts with an eye for quality. Dallas have been building this VW Rabbit Diesel Truck…. I love how he added legit Volk CE28n to his build and an exhaust system that was worked on by none other than Hytech…..

DSC05325

Of course a shot of my car too! The undertray of my Amuse R1 Bumper is getting more and more scraped as the driveways in LA are angled very steep….

Life: Petersen Tech Day

I checked out the Japanese tech day meet at the Petersen recently. I was looking forward to this event for awhile now, I knew there was going to be some quality cars appearing and I couldn’t miss it….I’m going to try not to post so many car show posts since I feel like you can find the same content all over the net…..I rolled in with a few S2k friends this day…..

I was right behind Areen’s Spoon’ed out Ap2….. He got everything painted now, including his new spoon overfenders…..

Not pictured:Myself….. A few S2ks I rolled in with including some notable ones, like Areen’s Spoon’ed out S2k, Gotuning Tommy’s ASM’ed out S2k, and SasLari’s Spooned out S2k at the end…… The first blue car belongs to my friend Chris…he recently became famous for having his Forgestar F14 wheels blow up at ButtonWillow…. you can watch it here

Absolutely mint Mazda Cosmo…this is Concors level of excellent.
4 door hakosuka
It looks so good with the early morning sun….

Next to that 4door Hakosuka is this 2 door Red Hakosuka…. my friend was trying to buy one for the longest time, but apparently they are really hard to get registered in California….
The owner has owned this car for a long time now, I believe over 10+ years.  Datsun wheel!
Period stickers

In attendance was the fully MUGEN’ed out NSX seen all over the internet.  Seriously, there is probably only a handful of cars in the whole wide world that has the full Mugen kit like this guy….. didn’t get to take too many pictures of his car…. but he can be easily found with a quick google search.  My favorite Mugen piece of his car was this super rare Mugen Hatch that you could only get with the Mugen air cleaner….

Skyline R32 GTRs were in abundance at the show…..I feel like there were more Skyline R32 GTRs at the show than S2000.  This particular r32 GTR thought it was a ferrari….
Clean BMW E30 M3 some with some light mods….
IMG_9378

DSC05452

I like the Carbon fiber plenum on this BMW S14 Engine!

Interesting how most R32 GTRs were on DLR tags or registered out of state.
Datsun 510

This 240z with a RB26 and Greddy intake Manifold.

Datsun 240Zx were well represented

I didn’t really understand show cars until I came to California and saw the level of details on their show cars.  This EM1 is a prime example.  The more I look at this car, the more I see tiny details that could be easily overlooked.  Very nice Kswap with a Supercharger….

Mugen rims with Spoon Brake Calipers and ARC splitter…. this is what defines USDM JDM-type tuning…. just a mashup of all different types of brands.  In Japan, People usually tune within one brand or two….

A closer shot here detailing the engine bay.  I am digging the jblood spark cover.

More Mugen MF10 Action!
I remember back in the day I used to see so many of these on the road. Hell, my 2nd accident I ever had in my life was with a Black EM1 rear ending my car…. Finding a stock one of these cars must be impossible to find now.

Enter a caption

Insanely mint Honda Z600, it’s easy to forget how small cars used to be.  This thing looked like it just rolled off the assembly line….It looks like this is a Two Cylinder engine?

IMG_9479That Spare tire location.
Mitsubishi Evo IX 4G63 swapped into a Kouki S14

Not very common swap for this 240sx.
R34 GTR….All dirty, but still Bayside Blue!
Still clean body-wise nonetheless
this BMW “M” Coupe was in attendance……which is suspiciously rocking a normal Z front bumper, not the M version.
with normal Z3 Seats….not the M version either.
I’m positive this is not an M coupe….maybe the badge is from one….
Internet famous Michael Mao’s NSX was there….
I’m liking his new Wheel setup, ZE40s are the new hotness right now…future classic like the CE28

down the line from the NSX was this Skyline R34 Vspec…..
Looks like all was done was a drop, Volk TE37 and AP Racing Brake Calipers.

Voltex kitted Evo IX from Pholife33!
I’m digging the Illest Bride seats!

Red RWB 911!

signed by the master, nakai san.

Nissan Skyline R32 and Skyline R34

Plenty of FRS’ in attendance, pretty much all of them were supercharged……Not really into these cars…..

I wish Toyota would come back with such creative emblems.

Pretty good turn out for this event.
Whole row of 2nd Gen Celicas came out.

Classic combination, NSX on Gold Volk CE28N

This R32 looked to have some nice upgrades, HKS Cam Gears, and probably an upgraded twin turbo setup

I wonder if these Nissan Skyline R32 enthusiasts will hold onto their cars. I feel like a majority of them are buying the car for the shear novelty of owning a skyline in the USA and to “Stand Out”. I think it’s a bid hard to set yourself apart from the crowd when there are more r32 Skylines at this show than S2000s or even Honda Civics….

My friend Alvin was digging this jacket haha

Life: Super Street X Toyo Tires Calendar Launch Meet (Part 1)

Last month I checked out the Super Street X Toyo Tires Calendar launch in Costa Mesa. It took place at Boden AutoHaus so they were plenty of stance cars on air there. I’m usually not a big fan of stance, regardless I wanted to check it out. They were some quality builds there I’ve only seen online prior. Sorry for lack of polarizer… the pictures are too damn reflective….

DSC08599

First thing I saw was this Art car inspired Porsche 911

DSC08603

Costa Mesa Police was there to keep things in order

DSC08605

They were some S2000s there like this s2k running “Spoon inspired” body parts, like the top, bumper, fenders…. The quarter panels look legit though…. Sometimes I wonder if you spend this much on Shine goods, it’s not that much more for legit bumpers.

I’ve seen this LTMW Audi R8 all over the interwebs. I must admit it looks better in person.

Life: NSX & S2k Meet at NWP

Hi all, 新年快樂! or happy Chinese new year. I’m writing this all the way from Beijing China where I will be for a couple of days for the lunar new year….

In January my friend hosted a S2k and NSX meet at NWP. NWP is Northwood Pizza, a popular spot car enthusiasts used to meet up frequently in the Irvine area. This is the NWP in NWP4life…. This meet was on a Saturday and unfortunately I work some Saturdays, so I showed up a bit late to this meet after my stint at work, probably around 1pm in the afternoon.  By the time I got there, things were already in full swing and some people started  to roll out.

IMG_7391

S2k and NSX were both properly represented. In the past few years the price gap between the S2ks and NSXs have been increasing drastically. The s2000 has remained relatively at the same price, while the price of the NSX has been on the rise. Since the NSX is a more expensive car, I feel like they bring a more mature crowd and the majority of S2k owners nowadays are younger due to their low cost of entry…. I can understand that most NSX owners do not want to associate themselves with a younger crowd….which is why I’m so stoked that this meet happened and had a great NSX turnout. The NSX owners that come out to these are usually older guys, who cut their teeth modifying Hondas and “Upgraded” to the NSX while still sticking true to their roots.

IMG_7389

New Formula Red NA2 front end, HRE Wheels, and type-r style hood make this NSX yummy

IMG_7413

Another shot of the NFR NSX. You can see the painted stock NSX Calipers peek through. I remember the days when getting NSX calipers was hot shit to put on older Hondas, I.E Civic, Integra, my old BB6 Prelude……

IMG_7397

My crap framing, but this Berlina Black S looks great with a Voltex Front bumper, Bronze Ce28N, Mugen Hardtop, and Spoon Calipers.

IMG_7407

Blue S2k with ASM or ASM styled front bumper and Hood.

IMG_7418

IMG_7400

I checked out this Black S2k with an ARC Cooling plate and the HKS Supercharger. This is my first time seeing the HKS system in person. I am impressed how clean it looks compared to the other SuperCharger systems such as Science of Speed or the Vortech unit. The Oil Catch can setup and Coolant reservoir looks clean too, you don’t really notice it unless you look at it very hard.

IMG_7405

After the meet I stopped by one of my favorite spots in Costa Mesa, Period Correct. Period Correct is a clothing store that sells vintage racer inspired clothing. I love the layout of their store, the interior of the store feels like a petrolicious video. My car and the owner’s Mercedes Benz 190e 2.3-16v. The 190E is one of my all time favorite Benz, I hope this picture if a preview of things to come in my personal garage….

I love how raw this race car looks, especially inside the store.

I wonder if this even runs…

Of course being Italian Pininfarina designed this beauty…..

Thanks for reading, I’ll have more events to cover when I get back.

Life: Amuse done 3 ways

I hope you guys aren’t sick of seeing the same cars from the same meets, but I am trying to give the most authentic look into my car life. It isn’t always glamorous with crazy builds left and right, but rather myself hanging out with like minded enthusiasts and enjoying our hobby. This is my first time in a long time enjoying winter without snow! Seeing as it doesn’t really snow here in SoCal, the car events do not end….

Power House Amuse R1
I didn’t have my tripod with me today so I tried my best to get pictures somewhat in focus…..Aside from the big ass tree in the way, it is nice to see how differently the Amuse R1 front bumper can look with different styles of S2k and in different colors….

Alan brought out his New Formula Red Amuse R1 frontend S2k with a Voltex wing and CE28N…. I feel like if you follow this formula, you’ll have a solid S2k….. Voltex + Recaro + Ohlins + CE28N = Awesome S2k (sounds familiar?)

Greddy

This is not a Kia Soul, Tim brought out his Hyundai Genesis Coupe with a very interesting Turbo Setup.

Greddy

This kit was originally developed by Greddy for their SEMA Hyundai Genesis build years ago…. There is only one of of these kits ever made, so this makes it 1 of 1, how’s that for exclusivity!

Greddy

If this Intake manifold looks familiar, it’s actually a Greddy unit made for a SR20DET but adapted by welding the flange from the Genesis manifold! In the Nissan Silvia world, the Greddy intake manifold is widely copied. It’s awesome seeing such an iconic SR20 Manifold on his Hyundai.

Areen’s Spoon Build is so insane and the quality of the parts on his car are equally mental. I always find new things on his car that catches my eye. I’m blessed to have this dude as my friend since his spoon build is one of the top in the country…. or will be soon 🙂 Checking out his Spoon Rear wing, there is a super jdm sticker detailing how to take car of the wing.

Talking about mad parts. His AUTHENTIC Carbon Fiber Mugen Hardtop is a piece of true beauty. This is one of the few units I’ve ever seen in my entire life and one of few in the nation. The replicas don’t come anywhere close to this QUALITY and FITMENT…..

Took a closer look at his Spoon Bonnet/hood. I’m actually a really big fan of this hood…..It’s refreshing seeing this after seeing so many fake ones…. The Hood fits perfectly.

Interesting LED trunk light setup. Does the job pretty well.

I’m going to end this with a shot of my interior, if you are wondering, the driver’s Recaro is an IS-11 ASM and the passenger side is an SPG.
