If you guys know me, I’ve been selling off a bunch of my S2k parts collection I’ve amassed (hoarded) over the years…. One of the items I’ve had is this super duper rare “SPOON SPORTS MUFFLER KIT” for the S2000. Here is the link on Gotuning. They sold it back in the day for around $1800. I believe not too many were sold. I know of one other exhaust in the USA that was recently sold by Hmotors for $1300ish……
I’ve had this for a bit but I never got the chance to really mount this on a car. Recently a friend came into town and let me borrow the car for 2 weeks while he was in Japan on vacation. So me being me, I did a bunch of random maintenance to his car, oil change *OEM filter only people!*, diff fluid change, changed out burnt out bulbs behind the cluster, install LED interior lights, valve adjustment…. which was sorely needed since it was an 06+ that was a bit tight on the exhaust side, which is also a typical 06+ S2k problem!
Oh yeah, I installed this exhaust on his car and made a video! But first let’s look at some pictures.
Official description from Gotuning “Spoon introduces a sports muffler for a more subtle tone than the N1 muffler. Has a better sound than titanium by using SUS304 Stainless Steel. Designed for a quiet cruising and idling volume with a sporty tone upon acceleration. Does not drone for a clean and well-balance sound. Uses hollow hangers for increased weight savings.
Fits all S2000 model years.
Stainless Steel construction.
Made in Japan.
– 60mm piping at the cat to 70mm main piping.
– Tip size is 70mm.
– Weighs 8.72kg (19.22 lbs)
”
I just realized I never shot a picture of this exhaust in its entirety. Borrowed this from Gotuning. Now onto the shots I took!
Classic Spoon muffler tips. You can’t see it very well, but I have the Spoon silencer installed.
This exhaust features hollow hangers which reduce weight!
I used the Ap1 style muffler hangers. Another cool fact is that the piping goes from 60mm to 70mm. I have to use a special Toda Power Test pipe for car for that!
Badge life
I love how high quality this exhaust is. The brackets welded on are perfection.
weldporn/ resonator action. I wonder if this is the same resonator as the Spoon N1 exhaust?
This exhaust features a helmholtz resonator with a bracket welded onto it for extra support.
A nice shot of the resonator with some random take-out restaurant chopsticks under it…..
Installed on my friends GPW
Silencer on! which needs it for daily driving…. trust me.
Close up!!!!
My thoughts on the exhaust. The exhaust is definitely loud without the silencer. With the silencer on, it’s quiet, sounds like my ASM 70mm exhaust. When the silencer comes off, it becomes very “boomy” more of a bass tone. With the silencer on I can hear the radio fine, with it off I can’t hear anything else, just the exhaust. With the silencer, there is more of an air wooshing sound during WOT, probably because the silencer is restricting exhaust flow. On my friends 06+ Ap2 it does hit the body, like many exhausts…. this can be fixed with a hammer.
Words are one thing. Here is a video I made:
And the offical Spoon video:
And from this random dude on a SC’ed S2k:
